An agnostic is wanting to know why I can be so certain that God exists.

How can you be so certain that god exists? It’s no surprise that atheists who are on the other end of certainty would be so hostile towards you.

You preach the same certainty that they do. And to add on, there is no “overwhelming proof” of the existance of god. Your belief is simply the sum of a matter of many mundance coincidences (ie. “personal spiritual signs”) and a failure to explain the world in any other way.

Because hey, god seems like the next best thing. He explains everything in a neat little package, isn’t that convenient? But no, when things that religion used to explain like “spontaneous generation” was later explained through biological means, bible-afficianados simply got off that bandwagon and ignored that one altogether.

But all that aside, I am a proclaimed agnostic. I don’t see anything wrong with saying “I don’t know” because I feel uncomfortable associating myself with an institution like religion that has rules and doesn’t have any empirical evidence that could hold up in the court of law. At the least, the whole concept of “beyond reasonable doubt” certainly applies here.

Although on a somewhat abstract level, I think the movie 12 Angry Men mirrors the feud between atheists and deists. As well, with this site, Poe’s Law easily applies where it is simply stated that it is hard to tell parodies of fundamentalism from the real thing, since they both seem equally insane. Conversely, real fundamentalism can easily be mistaken for a parody of fundamentalism.

I am certain that God exists because I know no other way. I’d rather make a decision about where I want to spend eternity rather than just sit on the wall like an agnostic all of my life.

The world is overwhelming proof to me that God exists. How else did it get here? The Big Bang? Then where did that energy come from? So much of science falls on its ass when you apply just a little bit of common sense to it!

What’s wrong with certainties? Aren’t your friends the Atheists certain that there’s no life after death?

God is the only God to have explained how the world came to be in such an elegant way. That’s the ‘neat little package’ you describe.

You should read the Bible. It’ll educate you and give you the intelligence that you so desire!

Atheist’s seriously love logic. They are like crack fiends for it. It dominates their lives and then they turn it on Christians thinking that it’s a loaded gun when really it’s just a rotten banana. Here’s another ‘logical’ argument I received from an Atheist.

Since we can’t disprove God scientifically means that God must exist? Logical Fallacy. The bible is true because god says it is.

God is real because the bible says he is. Circular argument, logical fallacy. Obama didn’t mention god in his speech, therefore he must be an atheist, therefore he must be evil. Logical fallacy.”Atheists Believe In Nothing. Agnostics Don’t Know What To Believe. Christians Believe In God. Therefore He Exists.” Also a logical fallacy. I have read the bible and found it to be quite an interesting novel.

To sum up the bible for those who haven’t read it, it is about the belief that a Jewish zombie can make you live forever after death if you metaphorically practice cannibalism and telepathically tell him you believe in him. Also, the world in the novel begins when a naked woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree of doom. Makes perfect sense doesn’t it?

Why the hell do you have to demean Jesus so much by calling him a Zombie? Do you realize how closed minded this makes you seem to everyone here? You can use logic to prove anything. Does that mean that everything it proves exists? What about black holes or dark matter? Scientific ‘logic’ has deduced that these exist but there’s absolutely no reason to believe that they do exist out there.

The burden of proof lies with you, or should I say, anybody that proposes unfalsifiable claims as fact. Atheism is not about evolution or Darwinism, but with skepticism.

But I’ve sure you’ve heard this before, and nothing I say or anybody else says for that matter, will change your mind, as you have the answers before there was a question, which in spite of evidence to the contrary, you believe blindly.

Maybe you’ve got some way of thinking or acting that ignores the fact that believing in a god or creator has the same amount of evidence to prove its existence as a fairytale character, for example, Satan Clause. But what can you substantiate and prove, other than the mere philosophical wankery?

Sure after coming to some basic, fundamental assumptions about the universe, or at least personal existence, other assumptions have to be made, as questions arise.

But why believe in something so intangible, without a scrap of evidence? It baffles me. Just because it sounds good, gives solace, or even does some good, doesn’t make it true. Additionally, discrediting evolution is a scapegoat tactic to the question of why do you believe, not why I don’t believe.

Evolution gives a beautiful explanation of how the world was formed that is both provable and testable. Yet if evolution were reestablished as false tomorrow, this would not prove the existence of a god, or gods, and certainly would not prove the existence of the Christian God.

So, in closing, you can go on and ‘believe’ what you want to, but when you ask yourself, why, you will find nothing more than faith, which means you have no proof and no reason to believe, other than you are believe a story somebody else told you. Now with over ten thousand religions on this planet all professing, that they are paying servitude to the one true god, and not one of them agreeing as to what god is or wants.

I would say that none of them knows what god is. Or are completely lying for god.

No one knows what god wants for he seems to not communicate with the humans he supposedly created.

Now we move into the twenty first century and are able to reason. I hope people don’t stone women for not being a virgin on their wedding night.

You’re right about religion being about the fear of the unknown. Aren’t you afraid of being wrong and ending up in Hell with Satan forever? The only obvious decision is to trust in Jesus so that you can gain eternal life.

Other religions may be becoming venomous but Christianity is exactly the same as it always has been. Why? Well Jesus hasn’t changed. His promise remains. True followers of Christ will remain the same.

Of course there are some bad eggs who will attempt to demean the name of Christ. There’s nothing we can do about this.

I dont think that Atheism is evil, however I do think its dumb.

Ask an atheist “does god exist?” and they will say “absolutely not!”

Ask an agnostic the same question and they will say “I don’t know, the universe is a massive complicated place, I’m only a human, I couldn’t possibly know if there is or isn’t a god/creator”

The atheist claims to know everything that is and ever was about the universe. I mean, to be so sure that there is no creator, you would have to know the universe inside and out, right?

The agnostic never makes such a claim. They might be unsure whether god exists or not, but at least they say “i dont know” and dont belittle us christians or any one from any other religion for believing in a god. I love talking to agnostics, they are open minded and live to hear my views. I might not be able to convince them that there is a god, but at least they are willing to hear what I have to say. I respect and appreciate that.

I am a very spiritual person, I call myself a christian because I accept Jesus Christ as my savior, and have a lot of love for him. However, I dont go to church. I feel that church is a great place to meet like-minded individuals, but its not necessary. God knows what is in my heart. Whether I go to church or not.

I find it very difficult to talk to an atheist. I try to be a good christian and accept them for who they are, but they are so arrogant.

Every atheist I have come across has been uneducated, yet they will call those who have faith uneducated. They say that science proves that god doesn’t exist, yet if they actually did some research, rather than watching Jerry Springer all the time, they would know that physicists are starting to realize that the universe couldn’t have possibly created itself.

There have been a lot of once-atheist scientists who are now baffled because of what they found, and now are turning to religion. What does that say?

Fact is that there is more proof out there that supports the existance of god, and anyone who says otherwise is not only uneducated, but arrogant. They refuse to educate themselves on the subject.

An atheist will ask me where I got my information from, and I will give them the source and ask them to have a look for themselves and they flat-out refuse. Why? I guess they would rather watch jerry springer than be educated on the subject.

I don’t think its possible for atheists to destroy our society. They might want to, but are too dumb and self involved to be able to actually do it.

Like your title says, atheism is dumb! (although I dont believe that evolution sucks -I think that evolution and creationism are the same thing. That god created the universe to evolve, with a little fine-tuning on the way. However I dont believe that humans desended from apes, but I do believe in evolution, and god made it that way. Thats just me though, I accept that I could be wrong.

“You try to disprove him with your own warped idea of logic and rationality” I don’t try to disprove him/her. I use to be really religious. Then I found myself thinking how ridiculous some of the things were that were being taught in a few churches I’ve been to.

Now with the war thing, if there wasn’t religion then the Jews would be able to live in peace, yet the Muslims have been killing them for thousands of years, just because of holy lands. Hitler’s reign killed over six million jews. Why?

All religion is man made, the only thing we know that god said is the ten commandments. The rest of the bible was written by other men not just one man. The first testament god supports an eye for an eye. That is truely evil.

The bible says the universe is roughly six thousand years old. How can that be with fossils of dinosaurs? No where in the bible does it talk about dinosaurs. He never talks about any of his other creations. Also we can see light from stars that took billions of years to get here. There are also cave paintings that date before six thousand years.

Explain why Jesus is so similar to so many other religous characters before christianity’s begining. Why do you fear god? You’re suppose to love not fear. I’m not an atheist, but yet I believe in Pastafarianism

In Chambersburg, PA the PA Nonbelievers Inc (PAN) have started early on their neverending war against Christmas by attempting to stage a counter-protest against the annual nativity scene that is displayed by the fountain in the town square.

Now the nativity scene is to be removed as town hall can’t allow both the nativity scene or the counter-protest to remain due to legal threats against the County.

These assholes state that they aren’t there to attack Christmas, rather they want to praise Atheist Veterans and the spirit of secularism.

What utter drivel and cowardice! Can’t these communists for once just admit that they are there to try to desecrate the memory of Christ?

Surely if the Atheists concerned about peace as they often claim they are, they’d take their protest elsewhere.

Here’s an idea, why not let good hard-working American Christians give praise to their God without fear of being persecuted.

Atheism is not evil. Atheism, for me, is about making a stand, being resilient and independent.

I do not need to ask God for forgiveness, I ask myself and that is much more punishing. I do not shed my problems and guilt, i live with them and bear them everyday. I am stronger for my atheism. I do not, and will never, believe that humanity needs God to do good. The biggest enlightenment is knowing that I am inherently good, not just good because I live in fear of a deity.

Explain how god is real? Don’t tell me some book said it that was written by many different people. Also how is Jesus white? Why is atheism bad?? Most wars are started over religion. The earth is only a few thousand years old? What about fossils, oh i forgot those are just to test your faith. although nothing of that is mentioned in your great book of faith. I’m a very open person, I use to go to church regularly, untill I realized how often the people of church lie. Explain to me for I am in the dark.

God is real as He tells us that he is in the Bible. How on earth do you think the World became the way it did if it wasn’t divinely inspired by a creator? If you use your intuition then you’ll have a spiritual understanding that God is real and this won’t require any evidence whatsoever on your part.

Your problem is that you aren’t man enough to even give God a chance in your life. You’re too stubborn in your ways to seek God in your own terms, so you try to disprove him with your own warped idea of logic and rationality, which frankly does not cut it.

Most wars are started over other dogmas like communism or nationalism. People blame the conflict in Ireland on religion alone, when it’s obvious that it’s more to do with how both sides perceive their own national identity. You can’t blame religion for everything you know!
