Ok firstly I would like to say that many atheists don’t actually have problems with the possibility of God many believe that there could be a god but just don’t see any hard proof of a super natural being, most atheists have problems with the stubbornness and thick headed beliefs of many religious people the problem they have with them is that they only believe in one set thing and are not open to the idea that they could be wrong almost all atheists that I know change as new ideas come up and old ones are discredited.

If you don’t have a problem with God, why don’t you just give him a chance to do wonders in your life? What have you got to lose?

Besides that Christians in particular have been killing us oppressing us and torturing us for centuries because we would rather be expanding the mind rather then pandering to a book that regardless of what anyone says was written by men over the course of centuries and yes the bible does teach good things but nothing different then what we should be doing anyway regardless of heaven or hell I personally would rather spend my life living well and being a good person then just doing it so I can get into heaven.

I’ve just recently read some of the comments from Atheists because my grand daughter is dating such a person and I wanted to understand their thinking.

WOW! What I’ve learned is that They’re all so angry, sarcastic, and venomous in their attacks on religion….particularly Christianity.

There is no sweet spirit to be found in them. I’ve tried to find an anti-atheist t shirt to wear when he wears his anti-God shirts, but did you know you can’t find them on the web. Anti-God, anti Christian stuff is everywhere to be purchased …. and yet the they complain about how the atheist are discriminated against,blah, blah, blah etc.

Well boo hoo. I’ve read enough of their whiny, self centered rants. I will certainly not encourage or accept such a negative force in our family. Doesn’t the scriptures say that the gospel is “foolishness” to those who don’t believe? and that “the FOOL says in his heart that there is no God” so thousands of years ago, the writers of scripture were inspired to prepare believers that the unbelief would be in the world. And isn’t Satan “the prince” of this world anyway? I think atheist are perhaps just part of his army…doing his work.

Hi, I’d like to pass a few thoughts of mine your way.

As a precedent for the words that follow, I am not here to slander you or your faith. I believe a faith or the lack thereof should be one chosen by an individual who is fit of mind, rather than through societal pressure or blind judgment. Therefore, I shall simply share my musings in hopes we can both gain something from it.

Second, I admire your steadfast dedication in defending your religious beliefs. Unfortunately, I respectfully do not agree with your statements regarding the “extremely arrogant, disrespectful and rude” atheists.

Reading a few stories on your blog today, I see how one could form such a conception that all atheists (or agnostics like me, I suppose) are intolerant of the Christian faith. The story of poor Margaret in particular is quite a shock to me; no human should be subject to harassment, especially one as severe as the situation described.

However, I know plenty of wonderful Atheist and Christians in my life; the same extends to the Jewish people, Agnostics, Mormons, Hindus, Muslims, and the odd Wiccan or Buddhist alike. I know just as many, if not more, people in my life who are bigots, chauvinists, or simply terrible humans. Who are these people? They are Atheist and they are Christian. They are the Jewish, Agnostics, Mormons, Hindus, Muslims, and the odd Wiccan or Buddhist. Regardless of race, gender, political alignment, or religion, many people are, simply put, assholes. We just have to surround ourselves with the positive sort.

Perhaps it will be important to bring up the fact that I am still a junior in High School. Yes, I am young, still learning about life; that I will not deny. However, are we not all still learning? The pursuit of education is the essence of the human spirit; study and rational thought forms the heart of theology, philosophy, and science…

Let us not forget important humans such as Socrates, who influenced much of western philosophy and subsequently politics, religion, and science; equally important is Aristotle’s contemporary Peter Abelard, who is famous for Sic et Non (Yes and No,) a paper meant to apply logic to theology; even John Locke, a thinker of the Enlightenment, reasoned for boundaries between faith and reason despite being an adherent of Protestantism himself.

Perhaps I shall also mention even the founding fathers of our country recognized a need to separate religion and state. Because of our forerunners of contemporary western thought, all those Platos and Adam Smiths and Mary Wollstonecrafts, we now live in a country where we are free to believe in the things we want to believe in. Our diversity is our strength; women are equal to men, all races stand shoulder to shoulder, and democracy, rather than singular theocracy, stands triumphant in America.

On a tangent, I should mention I witness this every day. My fellow peers are evidence that diversity is positive. These young men and women utilize their differences to their own benefit in collaboration; the gears of the Socratic Method turn smoothly and silently in the background. Perhaps it is because we are academics, humans who pursuit knowledge in AP courses and debate clubs. If the situation may be so, it is a good thing; a truly egalitarian society may be born from the ashes of the old, a place where humans can live in mutual harmony…

But I digress. Perhaps this response is idealistic; for that, I apologize. I guess I would like to assert my main point: please don’t make a sweeping generalization of an entire demographic of people based on the most egregious, most flagrant of offenses caused by them. I plead you to please think of this in the future, and perhaps post these thoughts so I may hear your cordial response. I would like to end this post with a particularly favorite quote of mine, courtesy of Benjamin Franklin:

Anyway, here we go.

Firstly of course i must start with the theodice paradigm, i.e. Yaweeh or Buddha or Allah or any of the other ones prohibit themselves from existing. Whilst this does not prove that no such thing as a god can exist, merely that the various gods as defined by religion exist.

Mandat is right when he says that Buddha does not exist.

Most religions maintain that their god is omnipotent and omniscient, both these are impossible concepts as to be omnipotent you would have to be able to create soething that you couldn’t do and therefore not be omnipotent. similarly omniscience would take away a being’s free will. also the main paradigm as below;

“If the evil in the world is intended by god he is not good. If it violates his intentions he is not almighty. God can’t be both almighty and good. There are many objections to this, but none that holds since god is ultimately responsible for the existence of evil. Besides, if only god can create he must have created evil. If somebody else (the devil) created evil, how can one know that god, and not Satan created the universe?”

If everything must have been created, then god must have been created as well. If god is not created, then everything mustn’t have a creator, so why should life or cosmos have one?

If everything has a source and god is that source, then god must have existed without it before he created it. So if god created time and space, he must live outside of time and space. Thus he is non-existent. If all life must come from something and that is god, god is not alive and hence non-existent. If moral must come from god, god lacks moral. If logic comes from god, god is illogic. If nature comes from god, god is unnatural. If existence comes from god, god is non-existent. If god is the cause of everything, god is void

A rather nice although generally pointless bit of verbal gymnastics defines gods as non existent. If he created time and space and existence then he would have to have been outside time and space and existence and therefore not exist.

There is much similar verbal trickery to negate the existence of gods however this will not convince you as I know it will not convince me. The way that schizophrenics are often treated is by getting them to question their own delusions and attempt to prove them to themselves which they then of course fail to do allowing them to regain some form of sanity. Unfortunately the general delusion makes an absolute proof of a gods non-existence.

It is much like Bertrand Russell’s teapot. He stated that there was a teapot orbiting the sun somewhere between earth and mars, he also stated that it was too small for our telescopes to see. Because of this we cannot prove it’s non-existence however this does not then mean that it does exist. In fact it’s existence is so unlikely and illogical that it can only be taken to be non-existent.

Now tell me, what is different between this teapot and god except that the teapot is actually more probable to exist.

Here’s a scientific little glitch which is sure to offend your sensibilities. If some form of god did create the universe and all life then he did a pretty shit job. Indeed humans can design and build much better versions of various naturally occurring things. For example the eye, which creationists somehow seems to think proves their point (i’ve never got that argument) in most land animals the eye is made backwards and upside down making it inefficient and causing photons of light to have to pass through many different lumps of tissue and fluids which is unnecessary and degrades the ’signal’.

Conversely the eyes of octopodes (I notice the spell checker wants me to use the incorrect octopi), whilst different does not have this flaw. There are millions of examples of such flaws and all of these, such as the eye can be designed and made much better by humans.

So if you insist on maintaining this belief in yaweeh/mickey mouse/ra/whoever then you have to admit that they have lower intelligence than humans.

God popped into existence once humans evolved to be intelligent enough to question it’s environment. The only reason we have to suspect god’s existence is that a long time ago some cave man came up with a theory that the big yellow thing in the sky had power over him. This then developed into your much more complex and much more damaging delusion.

Why would god condemn 99.99999% of his creation to hell? I believe that you say only those that believe in god go to heaven. No animals do but do they deserve to go to hell.

I understand what you’re saying about the teapot but it’s a poor analogy. There’s absolutely no evidence for a teapot in outer space AND there’s absolutely no need for tea making facilities in the outer cosmos. This is why the teapot is an absurd notion.

On earth there may be no ’scientific’ evidence for God but there is a need for him. We need him in order to be Good. We need to be saved by His grace otherwise we will be condemned to Hell for ever.

There is a God shaped hole in all of our lives. There is no teapot shaped hole in the Cosmos. Even Carl Sagan would have agreed with this.

Not everyone will go to Hell Mandat. Many will, but there are also plenty who are destined for eternal bliss for being faithful to God. We know this through the Bible.

God is both logical and illogical. He can defy his own laws as he’s beyond human and beyond all natural laws. It’s unfair to pigeon-hole Him in like you have.

I recently read a copy of Ray Comfort’s introduction to ‘The Origin Of Species’ and was amazed by how convincing his arguments against Darwinism are.

The real reason why Atheists are so up-in-arms about the inclusion of Comfort’s tour-de-force is because of the how truly coherent and legitimate the arguments are, not because it’s somehow disrespectful to Darwin.

This is why I think that all current publications of ‘The Origin Of Species’ should be banned out right by the government and replaced with editions containing Comfort’s commentary.

The truth is that you can’t understand Darwin’s book in it’s proper context without first sampling what Comfort has to say.

Reading the book alone is the equivalent of eating a sandwich containing no-filling. It’s pointless and unfulfilling and if you’re not careful you’ll choke to death on the nasty rotten crust towards the end.

Ray Comfort happily provides us with the insight to interpret it the way it should be interpreted.

If you’re Christian and at all concerned about the truth, please write to your local political representative and petition for the original ‘The Origin Of The Species’ to be banned outright.

Without Comfort’s opening it’s as dangerous (and as readily-available) as crack cocaine in the ghetto-slums.

I would like to start my post by saying; yes, there is no proof that god doesn’t exist but likewise there is no proof that he does. logic doesn’t found itself on unknowns, only the unknown founds itself on unknowns. but of course, having read most of your comments you reject logic, so in a way this post has an air of futility.

I saw in one of your posts that you can see god in everything around you. Of course, I can see the immense beauty in the world but no feasable, firm evidence of god’s existence. maybe it’s your interpretation of beauty, maybe it’s your rationalisation.

I suppose I’d consider myself an agnostic-atheist, to elaborate I must explain my vision of the universe and the scientific method. Man knows nothing, at least not for certain, but can make a pretty good guess depending on it’s simplicity and the assumption’s it requires. Christianity assumes there is a god- an unknown- and that all of the significant events in the bible took place ( depending on your level of liberalism).

In short, there is no complete disproof of god’s existence but due to evidence and a simpler theory which proves the evidence in the most efficient way, it is far more likely that god doesn’t exist.

And, at the risk of sounding pretentious, in the words of socrates, “He who knows he does not know is wisest”

He’s right when he says man knows nothing. Nothing in comparison to God at least, who knows how many hairs are on each of our heads.

I seriously sympathize with the confusion the poster is expressing throughout his argument. My advice is to continue to question Atheistic dogma and eventually you’ll see the light and come to the one True God.
