Atheist Admits That Scientists Are ‘Reason Obsessed’ And Implies That Introspection And Prayer Don’t Work.
Me convince you?
If I came to you claiming that some supernatural, unseen force was the true source and reason behind everything around us (oh, and gimme some of your tax dollars to subsidize my belief too please), I would rightly bear the burden of proof.
However, as it stands, I don’t feel any burden of proof. You’re the one on the spot with your claims of virgin birth and transmutation of matter and resurrection. Those are some pretty bold statements… Are you sure you can’t show your work?
But theists don’t give arguments which satisfy the non-believers. We’re not asking for a lot: the scientific method is something we expect high school students to learn and put into practice. But as far as I can tell, general theist arguments rely on faith and the personal revelation of God’s grace.
I just read your arguments against Dennis, and you say exactly that: God does not yield to reason; you cannot perceive Him moving in the universe because you are too in love with reason; introspection is the only path to God.
Okay, if you are not going to play by the rules, then lets just call off the game.
Me and my reason-obsessed friends will just go back to applying the scientific method to the world. We’ve been doing OK with it: tripled the average life expentency, cured hundreds of diseases, created machines like the computers we’re all using, developed technology and techniques to feed more than 6 billion people… You’re welcome by the way.
And you and your buddies can go back to introspection and prayer and feeling the Spirit move. Uhm, thanks for that I guess…
Darryl.
Your ‘reasoned’ friends may have tripled life expentency but is the necessarily a good thing? People are becoming more and more secular as time progresses because of Science and this is leading more away from God. Those who do not accept God into their lives will spend all of eternity in Hell Fire.
What’s the point in hardening these people against God?
You don’t want to see the truth Darryl, which is fine – it’s your choice to remain an uneducated oaf.
You make it seem like you’ve made an effort to understand Life – but you haven’t really. Introspection and prayer have done more for this Earth than science ever will. Science is at a dead end. There is no more to learn. If you knew what you were talking about then this would be self-evident.

don name ten things (real true things) that prayer has done for this world. there is nothing religious about introspection it is simply the act of self examination.
he is using sarcasm to emphasize a point when he says he is ‘obsessed with reason’
god doesn’t exist, therefore your arguments against living are null and void.
don you are 50 something aren’t you? so you’ve lived much longer than you should have done so why don’t you go to god now, you might be a bit disappointed but then the chemical reactions which are you will have stopped by then.

I read your reply this morning and had a playful, tongue-in-cheek rebuttal to continue on with the fun, and had it on my list of things to do tonight. But I will not be posting that; instead the following earnest and sincere response.
Today I was watching my 2 year old don playing with my 89 year old grandmother. In particular, she was whispering in his ear and I caught a well-loved joke from my own childhood.
My grandmother is doing very well for her age, due in large part to a hip replacement surgery last year, and a heart-valve replacement 10 years ago. She is also diabetic and takes insulin daily along with a host of other medications. She attends bi-weekly physical therapy sessions.
The above statements seems so mundane, but are in fact a towering marvel of science.
“Is that necessarily a good thing?” you ask? You would prefer me to live in a world where my grandmother had died in pain decades before, never to know her great-grandchild, or perhaps me?
What a shocking and shameful thing to say.
Has your recent grief and mourning made you so love death that you would wish on those around you sooner and more frequently?
You and I are blessed to live an unprecedented golden age of prosperity and health. That you would wish for anything other than that should deeply trouble you. Please apply your well-honed abilities of introspection to that.
“You make it seem like you’ve made an effort to understand Life – but you haven’t really. Introspection and prayer have done more for this Earth than science ever will. Science is at a dead end. There is no more to learn. If you knew what you were talking about then this would be self-evident.”
You do realise that prayer experiments have been conducted (by a certain Christian College, whos name I forget but will happily find it if you need proof) and found to be completely placebo based?
The irony is you’re completely backwards in that paragraph. Religion is at a dead end, and thats why so many people with faith are attacking atheism such as yourself.
Science offers answers. If offers conclusions. It offers self enlightenment.
Religion only claims to offer these. Christianity has had over 2,000 years to prove itself….and NOTHING. Evolution is pretty much proven, and a hell of a lot more viable.
Want to know what happens when you discard science and have religion based countries? Go look in the middle east…you know…where the 10th Christian crusade is currently going on.
i just want to comment on the BEAUTIFUL, STUNNING pic at the top. who knew that such a georgious human existed?! its such a turn on!!!
