Why Must Atheists Be So Inconsiderate When Tearing Down Other Peoples Views?
Comments(15) I’ve encountered many Atheists in my time who have mercilessly torn apart the world of humble Christians who were simply out to preach the Word of God and not start a fight.
I’d like to tell you a story about one such incident that left me reeling for quite some time.
I used to work on the streets with this old widow called Margaret and we’d hand out cups of coffee to drunken revelers as they left the bar.
This one young man came out of the tavern, walked past Margaret and as he did, she kindly handed him a pamphlet about God.
What followed has haunted me for quite some time.
It turns out that the guy was an Atheist who lived on the same block in downtown Madison many years back.
He’d heard about the passing of Margaret’s husband just recently and began mocking her with cruel comments.
‘Marge! There’s no such thing as God. Your husbands gone forever! He’s dead as a f***** door nail. You’ll never see him ever again!”
As he said this Margaret dropped the cup of coffee she was holding, looked to the ground and became inconsolable.
Far from coming to her aid, the Atheist continued his cruel taunts, dancing around like a chimp on heat, grimacing with a depraved sex face that only a bad ape could muster.
‘God doesn’t care because He’s not there. Face it you’re alone now and you’ll be alone forever. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer person, Marge!’
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, the Atheist dropped his pants and wavered his buttocks over Margaret’s head like two ungodly hoods of flesh.
He then blasted out a superhuman emission that just sent shivers down my spine.
We stood there shellshocked by what had just happened. The smell of the fart didn’t even effect us that much as we were so focused on trying to make sense of it all.
Marge died soon after that. We don’t know if it was the grief of losing her husband so early, the cruel taunts of the Atheist or worse of all – his gaseous ‘revelation’ that cost Marge her life.
Maybe it was a combination of all three.

At night, after few drinks, someone, even kind, try to give pamphlet about something that you don’t believe… what would you expect?
And how in your mind is this any different from the Catholic Priest who told my best friends family he was burning in hell because he committed suicide? You don’t have to be an atheist to be cruel and being an Xtian does not make you kind. Both kinds exist in both camps. Torquemada was a christian, he was not very nice to people who did not believe as he did.

That’s a terrible show of behavior. However, not everyone is like this. 99% of the atheists I know are respectful and keep to themselves. I respect your opinion, but don’t make generalizations.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience with this one a$$hole. He took things way too far. He doesn’t represent my atheism anymore than I would suspect murderers involved in the Spanish Inquisition represent your Christianity.
I can, however, explain the reason why people get upset when you are “simply out to preach the Word of God.” I used to be one of you, so I understand you do it out of love and compassion for your neighbors. However, atheists are constantly dragged into arguments by well-meaning people like you, and it gets old. Nothing we say is ever going to burst your little bubble because logic has nothing to do with your faith. Arguing is futile.
Unfortunately, people who believe as you do have unfairly used the politics of fear and the herd mentality to make my life more difficult. You think when I have sex with my girlfriend it’s icky, so I can’t get married. If you had your way you’d force a teenager to carry her raper’s baby.
When you minister to children, you’re raping their minds! It was done to me, and I can’t be more upset about it. You take malleable little brains, and you twist them into obedient, accepters of authority, willing to forsake reason to bring praise to an imaginary tyrant from beyond the clouds.

If you can convince me that no person that believes in God has ever behaved as cruelly and asinine, I will believe he acted that way because he was an atheist. I don’t think you understand the differnce between coincidence and causation.
Also, it sounds like Marge was very much in doubt about her faith in God; otherwise, the a-hole’s original comment would have had little impact.
Lastly, your assertion that ‘atheism is evil’ is ridiculous. Religion, particularly western religion, has cause more death, torture and rape than atheism did or ever will; and will continued doing so as long as followers of these believes continue to live their lives by the dictates of bronze-aged goat herders.

Atheism is a worldview diametricaly opposed to the theistic view. It’s something that can not stand by it self so it needs religion to justifiy it’s existence. Agnosticism is the more honest description about a person lacking the holy spirit to see light. Even this termin doesn’t do jsutice to most people. Most are just radical antichurch pagans. They have no problems with reiki and tarok cards but they hate Jesus. That’s all. Everything about “scientific” based “enlightment” is bullshit. It’s about rebelion. Nothing more.

To start, atheism, is in fact, disbelieving in god. To be agnostic, is to be neutral on the subject.
Atheism could very well stand by itself, as it is in fact the absence of religion, not the parasitic society killer stereotype which is imbedded into your mind.
As an atheist I do not hate Jesus at all. My personal belief was that he was a pretty cool pacifist two thousand years ago, and thats about it.

Just notice the tone (and behaviour) atheists use when calling others stupid. It sounds the same way as: “Go kill yourself!”

This thing will harm me / society. (EVIL) Or this thing will help me / society. (GOOD) – There is nothing more in life.

do you REALLY want to go down a road of pinning the actions of one (or even quite a few) individuals on an entire “group” of people (though calling atheists a “group” at all is really pretty stupid in itself)? history is quite littered with the religious doing far worse than anything described by you in this post.
and shouldn’t you be thinking that god called your (fake) little old lady friend to heaven or some junk anyway? why don’t you religious people throw parties instead of sad funerals? you should be happy for those people if you believe your own faith.
